Digital Twins for Staircase Renovation: The Renovastair Project

The primary challenge for Renovastair was bridging the “trust gap” in online customization. Customers often hesitate to commit to renovation projects without seeing physical samples. By digitizing 50+ complex materials into accurate PBR assets, we created a configurator experience where the digital wood, concrete, and carpet textures are indistinguishable from the physical reality. This reduces sampling costs and accelerates the decision-making process.

Material Fidelity

We established a visual hierarchy that prioritizes texture realism. By calibrating albedo maps to physical samples, we ensured that the wood grain and carpet fibers respond correctly to light. This attention to micro-detail guides the user’s eye to the quality of the finish, rather than just the shape of the stair.

Modular Versatility

The project required a highly modular approach. We modeled specific profiles, Open, Closed, and Z-shaped stairs ensuring that every texture mapped seamlessly across complex geometries. From textile design to wood finishes, each asset was built to allow the configurator to swap finishes instantly without breaking visual immersion.
