July 22, 2024

What’s New in Corona 12?

Integration with Chaos Vantage:

Initial integration with Chaos Vantage, a GPU-based real-time ray tracing renderer, allows exporting scenes for rendering. This feature is useful for exploring large production scenes, rendering stills, and creating short animations. A live link is expected in Corona 13.

Revamped Virtual Frame Buffer (VFB 2.0):

Enhancements include saving multiple LightMix setups, comparing images with different resolutions, and editing Corona EXR (.cxr) files. The Corona Sky system now has a Density parameter for cloud control.

Enhanced Features and Tools:

  • Curved Decals : Apply decals to curved surfaces for realistic texturing.

  • Corona Pattern Modifier : Allows geometric objects to define the crop box shape.

  • Cryptomatte Render Element : Now supports distributed rendering, including Cinema 4D’s Team Render and Resume Render.

Pricing and Availability

  • Corona Solo Subscription : $59.90/month or $394.80/year (node-locked, includes access to Chaos Cosmos).

  • Corona Premium Subscription : $72.90/month or $514.80/year (floating, includes Phoenix, Chaos Player, and Chaos Scans).

  • Additional Corona Render Nodes : $172.

Corona 12 is compatible with 3ds Max 2016+ and Cinema 4D R17+. For more details, you can visit Chaos’s website or watch the video linked in the announcement.
